Workout at Thomas Jefferson Park

What is the workout area at Thomas Jefferson Park like? What kind of workout can be done in this outdoor gym?

Thomas Jefferson Park has pull-up bars of different heights, monkey bars, parallel bars, flat and incline benches and agility stations.
The exercises you can do are pull-ups, chin ups, hammer grip pull ups, Australian pull-ups, push ups, incline push ups, dips, leg raises, crunches and much more.
The floor is padded with black rubber so is clean and dirt free (except the part between the 2 portions of the workout area).
Check it on our video to have a complete view of what to expect as well as a circuit-training workout.

We are always wondering what is the best spot for outdoor workouts and calisthenics in New York, so we decided to check out NYC parks one by one to give an overview of what is completely free to use in the city. We want to show our city to the world, especially to New Yorkers that could take advantage of what is at their disposal for free in the many neighborhoods of Manhattan.

For the first installment of our series on New York City's outdoor gyms we check Thomas Jefferson Park. Here is our video:

Video breakdown:
01:20 Alternative to pull-ups and chin-ups: Australian pull up
03:00 Leg raises for lower abs
03:37 Showing 2 pull-up bars available at the park
04:25 Showing dips and the 2 variations to target more triceps or more chest (pectoralis muscles)
05:32 Alternative to pushups and dips: incline pushups
07:04 Thinking about what workout to do (circuit training)
08:27 Start of workout
10:36 End of workout
10:54 Alternative to walking lunges: rear foot elevated split squat jump

Workout of the video:
Dips 8-10
Walking lunges 20
Hammer grip pull-ups 10
Leg raises 10-12

Those 4 exercises are done back to back without rest in between, it forms a giant set. This giant set is repeated 4 more time without rest besides walking (fast) from one station to the other

It’s a great way to keep you warm during the cold days…

In all seriousness, stay hydrated with those circuit training (chug water before as you don’t have time while you workout) and warm up before (especially shoulders, so move your arms around and raise your body temperature as you go to work out).
